The journey to the Bar
From law school to the Roll of Lawyers
The Council oversees every stage of the pathway. Each stage has to be completed before the next one begins.
Bachelor of Laws
Obtain an LLB degree from an accredited institution. The Council sets curriculum standards and minimum requirements in collaboration with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission.

Law Practice Training
Complete one academic year of Law Practice Training at an accredited institution, covering civil and criminal procedure, advocacy, conveyancing, ethics, and the law of evidence.

National Bar Examination
Sit and pass the National Bar Examination, administered by the National Bar Examination Committee.

Enrolment on the Roll of Lawyers
Receive a Qualifying Certificate from the Council and apply to the General Legal Council to be enrolled on the Roll of Lawyers.

Accreditation
Accreditation comes first
An institution must hold a licence from the Council before it offers Law Practice Training. Teaching without one is an offence. Before you apply to an institution, check that it is licensed: a qualification from an unaccredited institution may not be recognised for the National Bar Examination.

Verify a certificate
Confirm the authenticity of a legal education certificate through the official service.
