Leadership and directorates

The Council is governed by a multi-stakeholder Board appointed by the President. Day-to-day administration is led by the Director-General, supported by the Registrar and ten directorates.

Director-General of Legal Education

Professor Raymond Akongburo Atuguba is a Ghanaian lawyer and academic. He has served as Professor of General Jurisprudence, Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, and Director of Legal Education at the Ghana School of Law.

Functions of the office

  • Advise the Board on matters relating to legal education.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of Registrars, Directors, and staff.
  • Oversee the accreditation process and monitor compliance.
  • Monitor admission processes across accredited institutions for fairness and transparency.
  • Lead the development and periodic review of law programme curricula.
  • Promote the integration of technology and innovative pedagogy in legal education.
  • Conduct regular inspections of accredited institutions.
  • Organise training programmes and professional development initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local and international bodies.
  • Represent the Council in national, regional, and international fora.

Mrs. Juliet Adu-Adjei

Registrar, CLET

Mrs. Juliet Adu-Adjei is the Registrar of the Ghana School of Law and an experienced legal and administrative professional with expertise in academic administration and institutional management. Since assuming office in 2019, she has supported the School's academic and operational functions, advanced stakeholder partnerships, and promoted excellence in professional legal education and training in Ghana.

Functions of the office

  • Answerable to the Director-General in the performance of functions.
  • Secretary to the Board of the Council.
  • Prepare and keep accurate records of the deliberations and decisions of the Council.
  • Perform any other function assigned by the Director-General.

Act 1170 · s.13-14

The Director-General is appointed by the President in accordance with article 195 of the Constitution. The Council appoints the Registrar in accordance with article 195(3). Both hold office on the terms specified in the letter of appointment.

The Board

The governing body of the Council. Its composition is set by the Act and draws deliberately on the Judiciary, the Bar, the academy, and government, so that no single interest controls legal education.

Members are appointed by the President in accordance with article 70 of the Constitution. They hold office for four years and are eligible for re-appointment for one further term.
