Law Practice Training is the one-year professional programme that bridges the Bachelor of Laws degree and the National Bar Examination. A person who holds an LLB degree must undergo Law Practice Training in order to qualify to sit the examination. Instruction covers civil procedure including the law of evidence in civil litigation; criminal procedure including the law of evidence in criminal trials; advocacy, ethics, and the practice of law, including law practice management, basic accountancy, and professional responsibility; conveyancing and drafting; and the law of evidence. It also carries a practical component: providing legal services to needy clients through clinical legal education, working as a law clerk for a judge or magistrate, working in an administrative agency, and active engagement in a law firm. On successful completion, the institution awards a Law Practice Training Certificate.
Entry requirements
A Bachelor of Laws degree from an institution accredited by the Council. The minimum entry requirement for admission to Law Practice Training is determined and published by the Council and is binding on all institutions (Act 1170, s.45(3)).
